Module

3 Writing the research design

Overview

This section is where you outline ‘how’ you propose to find answers to your research questions or resolve the research problems. A difficulty you may have is in providing the right amount of information – either too little or too much. It’s helpful to remember that you need to give as much information as needed for your supervisors and review panel to be able to say the research is do-able, and to justify all aspects of your research design.

Your research journey is complex, so project management skills are essential. One such skill is to capture all activities that need to be completed during your research degree in a time-line, best created using a Gantt chart. This is often a required part of a research proposal complex, so project management skills are essential.
